Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska Wellness Coalition celebrated the Live Healthy Iowa 10 Week Challenge at noon on Friday, at the bandstand.

Participants of the 10 Week Challenge and the general public were invited to attend the event. The ceremony began with some Oskaloosa elementary students singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Oskaloosa Mayor Dave Krutzfeldt.

Krutzfeldt spoke about the accomplishments the group of participants had achieved during the 10 weeks. “I’m pretty impressed,” Krutzfeldt said.

Mahaska County had increased 64 places in the state of Iowa, now ranking 15th in the State of Iowa over the previous year. Mahaska County had the 4th highest number of participants of any program in the state, with eight percent of the county’s population involved. The Oskaloosa School District had a thirty-seven percent participation rate.

Mahaska Health Partnership, CLOW Valve and Musco helped lead the way in corporate participation.

Every participant averaged 30 hours of activity and collectively they had 3/4 of a ton in weight loss during that time. “That’s pretty cool,” Krutzfeldt said.

Students from the Oskaloosa Elementary School then taught the rest of the gathered group the ‘Interlude Dance’.

With the music turned up, the smiles came out in celebration of 10 weeks of dedication.
