Susan Jane Zajec, 60, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House. Susan Jane Zajec was born November 16, 1954, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Frank and Ida “Mildred” Randell Zajec, Jr.

Susan graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1973, and following graduation took clerical training at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa.

Following school she worked at various Oskaloosa businesses including the Maid Rite, the old Central Book Store, and Gibson’s ~ later Pamida. For the past 22 years she has worked at Wal-Mart in Oskaloosa. In 2013, Susan earned her A.A. degree from Indian Hills Community College.

Susan was an active member of Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa. She was also a member of Eastern Star where she held several offices and was currently serving as secretary.

She enjoyed being on the farm and keeping the family farm, it was important to her that the farm was recognized as a century farm, and was proud that she still called it home.

Susan was very active in the Democratic Party. She also enjoyed spending time with her cat, Snickers.

Her family includes her sister and brother in law, Virginia and Jeff Pierson of Oskaloosa; two nephews, Dan (& Karlyn) Pierson of Rochester, Minnesota and Jeremy Pierson of Oskaloosa; and cousins, Judy Zajec, Jane Zajec and James Hopkins.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents; and a cousin, Max Rauer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015, at 10 a.m. in the Central United Methodist Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Bruce Wittern officiating.
Burial will be in the White Oak Cemetery east of Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Friday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel, and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5 — 7 Friday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Mahaska County Conservation Commission future Caldwell Park project, or to CUMC missions.
