Supervisors Authorize Grant Application For Connector Project

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Mahaska County Board of Supervisors met Monday, January 17th, 2022, in their second meeting of the new year.

The Supervisors held their quarterly review with Carosh Compliance Solutions in their quarterly HIPAA review.

During that review, Roger Shindell of Carosh Compliance said that in total, the numbers are “good” and that across all training, “we’re almost at 84%.” A face-to-face training session with department heads when the schedules align.

Regarding the Southeast Connector that the County, along with the city of Oskaloosa and the Mahaska Chamber and Development group, have been exploring, the Supervisors approved submitting a grant application.

If the group was to receive positive news, the grant could be for 65% of the estimated 10 million dollars to complete the project.

The Board approved the following deputy medical examiners; Dr. Chris Martin, Dr. Chad Torstenson; Dr. Trin Le.

Also approved was a 12 month Class C liquor license for Debbie’s Celebration Barn.

John Bandstra was appointed to the Pioneer Cemetery Commission.

Approved the annual mileage resolution for the Sheriff’s Office mileage reimbursement for the use of county vehicles, up 2 cents per mile from last year for a total of 56 cents a mile. This mileage is typically used while serving papers.

Informed the county attorney to move forward with a claim against RPK3.

A discussion on Human Resource needs for the County was tabled until a later time.
