Steve Posovich

Oskaloosa. Steve J. Posovich, 78, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, January 10, 2011, at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born January 18, 1932 at Centerville, the son of Steve J. and Winnie Hamilton Posovich, Sr. He graduated from the Moravia High School with the class of 1950. He then began working for the railroad as a station agent until joining the U. S. Army. On November 13, 1954, he was united in marriage to Sally Johnson of Centerville at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. Following his discharge from the Army, he again worked for the railroad, and then went to junior college under the G.I. Bill. Steve then began a career in finance, working for Iowa Finance (later AVCO Finance) in several towns in Iowa. They moved to Oskaloosa from Cherokee in 1965. In 1971, he joined Mahaska State Bank and helped establish Mahaska Investment Company (MIC). He worked at MIC until 1985, and then joined Jerry Davis Insurance Agency in Oskaloosa until retiring.

Steve was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Marion Council 4108 and Bishop O’Keefe Assembly; the Elks, the V.F.W., and the American Legion. Through the years, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, playing cards, and attending grandchildren’s athletic events.

His family includes his wife of 56 years, Sally of Oskaloosa; four daughters: Cynthia Posovich and Lisa (& Stephen) Tucker, all of Oskaloosa Dana (& Roger) Finley of San Antonio, Texas, and Jodyie (& David) Lanser of Pella; a son: Michael (& Sara Killeen) Posovich of Portland. Oregon; sixteen grandchildren: Gianluca Brambilla, Stephanie, Grant, Alexander, Megan, Laura, Mitchell, Clay, and Spencer Tucker; Denae, Alyssa, and Timothy Finley; Lena and Isabella Posovich, and Blake and Mallory Lanser; two sisters: Betty (& Gabe) Raskie of Centerville and Connie Conkel of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 14, 2011, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oskaloosa, with the Reverend Thomas Spiegel officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa, with graveside military rites given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion, D.A.V., and V.F.W. Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Thursday after 11 a.m. and the family will be present 5 – 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church or to MHP Serenity House.
