Statesmen Drop Pair of Duals in Season Opener

Cedar Rapids–The William Penn competitive dance team battled for the first time this season as it competed at the Mount Mercy Mustang Classic Saturday.

WPU, which actually hit the floor competitively for the first time in three years, fell to Grand View 86.6-52.2 and lost to host Mount Mercy 77.3-55.4.

The squad scored high for technique, but gave up a few points for energy and being in-sync.

“With this being our first competition of the year, I am a very proud coach,” Head Coach Abby Reynolds. “This is the first time that we have competed in years, and it feels great to put a routine out on the floor with such amazing athletes. We have a few things to incorporate and fix for our next competition, but all five of these young ladies should be very impressed with themselves and the work they did. We are back and ready to make an impression in the NAIA competitive dance world.”

Next Up: William Penn travels to Olathe, Kan. on February 15 to compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships.
