School Supply Sculpture Contest Set to Benefit Local Students

Penn Central Mall Oskaloosa

OSKALOOSA – United Way of Mahaska County and Penn Central Mall will host a “Bucket ‘O Supplies” sculpture contest starting on Monday, July 22nd. School supplies used will benefit local students and the Back-to-School Fair.

All teams will be tasked with using a standard set of school supplies to create their sculpture. For a $50 registration fee, teams will receive the standard set of school supplies to be used in the sculpture as well as a designated sculpting area in Penn Central Mall.

Teams will also have the option to either build the sculpture themselves or have a local artist sculpt on the team’s behalf. FACE of Mahaska County has agreed to locate artists.

“We’re excited to see how creative teams can be with the supplies we’ve chosen,” said United Way Director Timothy Gibson. “We encourage businesses, organizations, and groups of friends to work together and build their own sculptures, but we also look forward to seeing what the local artists with FACE can do,” continued Gibson.

Setup days will be from 9 AM to 8 PM on Monday, July 22nd and Tuesday July 23rd with display open to the public for voting from July 24th through July 31st. The sculpture with the most “people’s choice” votes will be announced as the winner at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, July 31st.

The deadline for team registration is noon on Friday, July 19th. For more information or to register, contact Penn Central Mall at manager@penncentralmall.com or (641) 673-9414.
