Sam Foster, 92 of rural New Sharon, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, December 11, 2019 at the Oskaloosa Care Center. Samuel Elvie Foster, the son of Howard and Vivian (Bunting) Foster, was born on December 28, 1926 near New Sharon, Iowa.

Sam graduated from Lacey High School in 1944.

Sam was a lifelong farmer and ran his first farm in 1943 at the age of 17 in the New Sharon and Lacey areas.

On February 27, 1945, Sam was united in marriage to Norma Kirby in Troy, Kansas. Following their marriage, together they farmed the Foster family farm and enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s sporting events, long weekend trips and traveling throughout their life together. Norma passed away September 11, 2006.

Sam was then married to Barbara Roorda Little on July 8, 2008. They enjoyed local traveling throughout Iowa checking out the countryside and wintering in Texas.

Sam enjoyed playing cards in the mornings at the New Sharon Senior Center and again in the afternoons at the Elks Lodge in Oskaloosa. He also enjoyed watching sports on T.V.

Sam is survived by his step daughter, Nancy Walker of New Sharon; his children: David (& Sue) Foster of Missouri and Sheryl McDaniel of Des Moines; two grandchildren: Stacey (& Joe) McSweeney and Derek (& Missy) McDaniel; many step grandchildren; great grandchildren: Cassidy (& Tony) Schmidt Kaitlyn Simpson and Cooper McDaniel; many step great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two wives, Norma Foster and Barbara Foster.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Monday, December 16, 2019 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
Burial will be held in the Union Mills Cemetery at Union Mills. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of New Sharon is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Sharon Fire and Rescue.
