Rickie VandeStroet, age 69, of Oskaloosa, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at the MHP Serenity Hospice house in Oskaloosa. He was born on January 27, 1954, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Gilbert and Nellie (Vanegdom) VandeStroet.

Rickie attended Hudson High School in South Dakota and graduated with the Class of 1973.

On June 11, 1977, he was united in marriage to Denise Deppe at Lake Keomah near Oskaloosa.

Rickie lived in California from 1984 until 1998 and worked as a supervisor at Sana Rosa Steel and then later drove truck. He then took a job as a welder and machinist for Van Gorp until retiring in 2014.

Rickie enjoyed working on cars, going to Lake Rathbun, riding motorcycles and being with Denise, his family and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. He also loved to sing and always sang from the heart. He utilized his singing voice for a lot of funerals.

His family includes his wife, Denise VandeStroet; children: Nathan (& Harmony) Deppe of Oskaloosa, ShaNa (& Anthony) White of California, Timothy VandeStroet of Oskaloosa and Quentin (& Jessica) VandeStroet of Oskaloosa; his grandchildren: Brandon Deppe, Jasmine Deppe, Kasie Deppe, Ethan Deppe, Aliyah White, Elizabeth White, Shayne White, Tyler White, Emma VandeStroet and Titus VandeStroet; a great granddaughter, Alania Fleener and another one due in July, Adelyne Rose; his siblings: Pete (& Ruth) VandeStroet of Rock Valley, IA., Jeanette (& Gerard) Van Beek of Inwood, IA, Bernice Hamilton of Sioux Falls, SD., Kathy (& Doug) Darby of Clinton, TN., Julie Hetrick of Oskaloosa and Penny (& Kenneth) Linville of Oskaloosa; a sister-in-law, Dixie Hildenbrand of Sigourney. He is also survived by his special family members, Tianna Deppe (& Trent Meier), Teralyn Meier, Traxton Meier and Trayce Meier.

In addition to his parents, Gilbert and Nellie VandeStroet he was preceded in death by his biological parents, Leonard and Darlene Hildenbrand; two brothers, Michael Hildenbrand and Leonard Hildenbrand; and his mother and father-in-law, Dale and Doris Deppe.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Molly Goodrich officiating. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 15, 2023, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel with Rickie’s family present at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. to greet relatives and guests.
As was his wish, his body will be cremated following services.
Memorials may be made to MHP Serenity Hospice House.
