Rex Keith Bever

Winnsboro, Texas. Rex K. Bever, 89, formerly of Fremont ,Iowa , died Monday, March 5, 2012. He was born May 24, 1922 at Hedrick, Iowa the son of Clifford McKinney Bever and Gladys Barcus Bever. He graduated from Fremont High School with the class of 1940. He served in the Calvary Division of the United States Army during WWII. On June 22, 1945 he was united in marriage to Ann Halliburton. Ann passed away July 8, 1976. Following his discharge, Rex and Ann returned to rural Fremont and purchased a farm close to his parents where he farmed until 1980. Upon leaving the farm he moved to Fremont and was employed by the A.E.A. in Ottumwa until retirement in 1987. During that time he also served as Mayor of Fremont.
On July 3, 1986, he was united in marriage to Lenora Wood at Knoxville. Lenora passed away March 16, 2007.
Rex enjoyed showing and riding horses, fishing and boating. In later years, he enjoyed watching old western movies and cheering on the Texas Rangers Baseball team. He was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church, and the Fremont Saddle Club. He was also a Mason and served several years on the Mahaska County Sherriff Posse.

His family includes a son, Ron Bever of New Sharon; a daughter and her husband, Roe Ann and Russ Logan of Winnsboro, Texas; two stepdaughters, Marsha (& Roger) Lynch and Nina Shrago, all of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren, J. W. Bever, Heather (& Jerad) Barnes, and Daniel Logan; five great grandchildren, Matthew, McKayla, Mason, Maddux and Merritt; three step grandchildren, Sherri Van Engelenhoven, Shera (& Nathan) Shrago-Westercamp and Jordan Shrago; One sister, Patty (& Floyd) Berry of Fremont and one nephew, Terry Berry.

In addition to both of his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, and a step son-in-law: Steve Shrago, and Step-granddaughter, Arianne Dawn Shrago.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 12, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Fremont United Methodist Church in Fremont, with Reverend Remigio Panlaqui officiating. Burial will be in the Abel Cemetery near Fremont. Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Open visitation will begin Sunday, March 11th after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 2-4 Sunday afternoon to greet friends and relatives.
