Question of the Week: Are you concerned about the recent tensions with North Korea?

Is the military show of force just for show or more serious?

Last week we asked you if you support the proposed regional airport. 56 residents responded with 37 residents (66%) voting yes, 13 residents (23%) voting no, and 6 residents (11%) voting unsure. The question of the week poll is unscientific and does not reflect the views of Osky News.

This week, we will transition into an international issue. Over the past few days we have heard of rising tensions with North and South Korea. The tensions escalated early last week when North Korea fired several rounds of artillery shells onto the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong killing two, injuring a dozen, and setting over 60 houses ablaze. The attack came days after it was revealed that North Korea was pressing ahead on its Nuclear Program. It was believed that the attack was sparked by South Korean military exercises in the Yeonpyeong Island area that the North had objected to.

Since the attack, tensions have risen greatly. South Korea has promised to respond “firmly” in the even of further attacks. Days after the attack, South Korea and the US began military exercises that the North called “provacative”. China has asked for leaders from the US, North Korea, South Korea, Russia, Japan, and China for an emergency meeting  to discuss tensions in the Korean Peninsula. The recent tensions have caused some to wonder if war may be looming. In 1953 an armistice between North and South Korea was signed ended fighting in the Korean War. The armistice never technically ended the war meaning that North and South Korea are still technically at war.

Now its your turn to decide. Vote in our online poll. The poll will be open until 9 pm next Sunday when we will close the poll and release the final voting numbers. If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail them to us at info@oskynews.org
