Perry Anderson, 69, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, December 2, 2019, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born December 4, 1949, in Giddeon, Missouri, the son of Otto and Lilly Thompson Anderson.

Perry attended the Oskaloosa High School.

Following school, he started his career in the building trades. He has worked in all aspects of construction but was a talented finish carpenter. Perry was working in bridge construction when a work accident in the mid 1990’s left him disabled and unable to continue working.

On April 30, 1971 he was united in marriage to Kathy McGinity in Oskaloosa. To this union two daughters Kelli and Wendi were born.

Perry was a former member of the Lions Club in Fremont. He was a talented handyman and could fix anything. He took pride and enjoyed his craft of finish carpentry. Perry also enjoyed golfing, collecting coins, doing projects on his daughters’ houses, listening to music, teaching his children to drive, riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles, playing cards with his family and friends, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Perry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathy Anderson of Oskaloosa; his daughters: Kelli (& Jason) Steil of New Sharon and Wendi Meinders of Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren: Shayla (& Jordan) Van Wyk, Taeler Dahm, Tristen (& Clay) Stravers, Sawyer Meinders, Blake Meinders, Jaydyn Steil and Alyxandrea Steil; two great grandchildren: Julien and Alizah Van Wyk; his brothers: Otto Anderson Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Frank Anderson of Newton, Odie (& Sally) Anderson of Ottumwa, and Larry Anderson of Oskaloosa; and sisters: Marilyn Wright of Oskaloosa and Judy Kerr of Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Robert Anderson, Jerry Anderson, Johnny Anderson, and Jimmy Anderson; and two sisters, Dixie Williams and Jean Jordan.

A memorial service will be held Friday, December 13, 2019 at 1:00 pm in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
As was Perry’s wish his body has been cremated.
Burial of the urn will be in the Friends Cemetery in Oskaloosa at a later date. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Thursday, December 12, 2019 after 12:00 pm in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present from 5 – 7 Thursday evening to greet friends and family.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House.
