Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Baseball team ran its home winning streak to six games to open the year with its second consecutive doubleheader sweep of Northeast Iowa Community College on Sunday. The Warriors move to 15-8 overall on the year.

Indian Hills has now won five consecutive games after picking up both ends of Sunday’s twinbill at Pat Daugherty Field. The Warriors took game one in dramatic fashion, 5-4, before finishing off the Cougars 5-3 in the nightcap.

One day removed from sweeping the Cougars in the series opener on Saturday, the Warriors fell behind early as Northeast Iowa took a 3-0 advantage in the opening frame. Northeast Iowa jumped ahead 4-3 in the fifth, but the Warriors answered right back with another RBI from Lopez.

All square at four in the seventh, the Warriors loaded the bases before Perri stepped to the plate and delivered an 0-1 pitch down the left field line to drive in Callum Donnelly (Bulli, Australia/New Mexico JC) for the walk-off game-winner.

Donnelly, Lopez, and Perri each finished the opener with a pair of base hits to lead the 10-hit attack for the Warriors. JD Moffett (Omaha, NE/Millard West) went five innings on the mound before Dylan Raines (Austin, TX/Lake Travis) posted back-to-back perfect innings in relief to earn his second victory of the year.

The Warriors struck first in the series finale with two runs in the opening inning, including an RBI knock from Perri. The Cougars battled back with two runs in the fourth and another score in the fifth to take a 3-2 advantage.

Sophomore Diego Mendez (Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico/ESCAED) sent a two-out shot to right field in the fifth to score Boris Rodriguez (San Sebastian, Puerto Rico/ESCAED) and even the game once again. Perri provided the dramatics once again as the freshman deposited a two-run double to centerfield in the sixth to score Donnelly and Charles Margulis (Boulder, CO/Boulder) for a 5-3 lead.

Connor Griess (Loveland, CO/Loveland) took the mound in the seventh and shut the Cougars down to preserve the victory for his third save of the year.

Freshman Ethan Martin (Milton, Ontario/Craig Kielburger Secondary) provided two solid innings of relief work to earn his first collegiate victory on the mound.

Donnelly finished the nightcap 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored while Perri and Mendez each added two hits apiece.
