On Saturday February 25th 2017 at approximately 4:56 p.m. Oskaloosa Police officers responded to the Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Room in reference a possible child abuse incident. After arrival, officers were informed that a female identified as 31 year old Alicia Nichoel Boyd-Reynolds of Oskaloosa had taken her 3 year old child to the Emergency Department because of frost bite that the child suffered from an incident over two weeks prior. During the investigation officers learned that Boyd-Reynolds and her child were playing outside in the snow for an extended period of time when temperatures were below freezing and her child was not wearing proper protective clothing for the inclement weather. The victim suffered frost bite to the toes and fingers due to the cold weather, lack of proper protective clothing as well and Boyd-Reynolds neglecting to have her child seen at the hospital for the injuries until Saturday the 25th of February 2017.

The child was subsequently transported from Mahaska Health Partnership to the University of Iowa Hospital Burn Unit in Iowa City due to the injuries. Boyd-Reynolds was arrested and charged with child endangerment causing serious injury, a class C felony. The criminal charge holds a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and up to a $10,000.00 fine.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the subject is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
