On Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at 11:25 am, members of the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office and Mahaska Health Partnership Ambulance Service were dispatched to the 2400 Block of Resolve Avenue in rural Mahaska County, in reference to a man stuck in a garbage truck.

Upon deputies arrival, it was discovered that 39-year-old Robert Eugene Evans of Oskaloosa had passed away as a result of his injuries. Evans was transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny where an autopsy has been scheduled for March 6th.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Evans died as a result of an accident involving the garbage truck. The investigation into this incident is contributing. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation by members of the Oskaloosa Fire Department, Mahaska County Emergency Management Agency, Mahaska County Dispatch Center, Mahaska Health Partnership Ambulance Service and the Oskaloosa Police Department.
