Oskaloosa girls track competes at weather-shortened Newton meet
NEWTON — The Oskaloosa girls track and field team competed Thursday night in Newton, but the meet was cut short during the 400-meter hurdles after lightning moved into the area.
Before the weather stopped the meet, the Indians still turned in several strong performances against another tough field of competition.
Delaney Harbour led the way with a second-place finish in the long jump, while Tierney Carter also earned silver in the 200-meter dash. Carter’s time of 26.88 was a new personal record and moved her into seventh place on Oskaloosa’s all-time Top 10 list in the event.
Harbour also added a fifth-place finish in the 200.
The distance medley relay team of Ky Roberts, Alice Rice, Vanessa Beadle, and Hazel Adam posted a new season-best time during the meet.
Preslie Bryan had a strong night as well, setting two new personal records. She recorded a PR in the long jump and another in the 800-meter run.
Several events were cancelled because of the weather, including the 1500-meter run, 4×100 relay, and 4×400 relay.
Despite the shortened night, Oskaloosa continued to show improvement as the season moves closer to the postseason.
