Oskaloosa drops varsity baseball doubleheader to Grinnell
GRINNELL — The Oskaloosa varsity baseball team opened the week with a doubleheader against Grinnell, dropping both games to the Tigers on Tuesday night.
Grinnell won the opener 14-2 despite a bright spot from Jake North, who provided all of Oskaloosa’s offense with a two-run home run to left field in the third inning.
Tate Peterson took the loss on the mound for the Indians. He pitched two innings, allowing five runs, two of them earned, on two hits while walking one batter.
North finished 1-for-3 and drove in both Oskaloosa runs. Jack Miller had a strong game at the plate, collecting two hits in two at-bats from the No. 9 spot in the lineup. Trey Parks added two stolen bases.
The second game was much more competitive, but Grinnell completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory.
Ty Edgar turned in a solid pitching performance for Oskaloosa, working five innings and allowing three runs, only one of them earned. Edgar struck out six batters and walked one.
Jack Miller drove in a run and finished 1-for-2 at the plate. Miller and Mason Muir each collected a hit for the Indians.
Oskaloosa showed patience at the plate throughout the night, drawing seven walks in the second game. Jake North and Trey Parks each reached base twice on walks to lead the team.
While the Indians came up short in both games, they showed flashes of solid play, particularly in the second contest, and will look to build on those positives as the season continues.
