OSKALOOSA BOYS TENNIS FINISHES 7TH AT KNOXVILLE TOURNAMENT

KNOXVILLE — The Oskaloosa boys tennis team competed Saturday, April 18, at the Knoxville tournament, battling cold and windy conditions throughout the day.

The tough weather made play difficult, and Oskaloosa finished 7th out of 8 teams in the tournament.

In doubles play, Mason Muir and Reuban Chilcote lost their first-round match to a team from Chariton. They then fell in their first consolation match to Newton, ending their day.

Kyle McHawes and Trace Rupprecht also lost in the first round, falling to the No. 3 seeded team from Saydel. That Saydel team went on to win the doubles tournament. McHawes and Rupprecht later lost in the consolation bracket to a team from Pella Christian.

In singles play, Ethan Stek represented Oskaloosa. He lost his first-round match to a player from North Polk but bounced back with two wins in the consolation bracket to finish in 7th place.

Stek showed improvement as the day went on, recovering from a slow start and playing stronger in his later matches.
