Oskaloosa baseball rolls to victory behind early offense
OSKALOOSA — The Oskaloosa baseball team used a big start at the plate and a strong pitching performance to earn a convincing victory this week.
The Indians wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, putting together a four-run first inning. Oskaloosa scored its first run on an error before Mason Muir delivered a two-run single. Later in the inning, Carter Bonnet drove in another run on a fielder’s choice to give the Indians an early advantage.
Oskaloosa added three more runs in the second inning. Two runs scored on another defensive miscue, and Tate Peterson followed with an RBI single.
The Indians continued to build the lead in the third inning when Jack Miller drew a bases-loaded walk to make the score 8-0.
Miller also earned the win on the mound. The starter pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out six and walking four. Jake North came on in relief to help finish the game.
Oskaloosa spread the offense throughout the lineup. Peterson, Trevin Griffin, North, Ty Edgar, Muir, and Cael Ashman each recorded a hit.
Griffin, North, and Muir drove in two runs apiece. The Indians also showed patience at the plate, drawing 10 walks during the game. Trey Parks and Miller each collected two walks.
The Indians were aggressive on the bases as well. Edgar stole four bases, while Oskaloosa finished with six stolen bases as a team.
