Oskaloosa Band Students Wash Cars To Raise Funds

OHS Marching Band Students scrub vehicles on Saturday. The car wash is their largest fundraiser every year.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – At three locations on Saturday morning, OHS marching band students were busy washing cars to help raise money for the program.

OHS Marching Band Director Mr. Copeland said the car wash is the biggest fundraiser of the year. The band also holds other fundraisers during the year to also help supplement the needs of students.

The OHS Band Boosters also help out by running the Oskaloosa Spirit Store inside of Penn Central Mall, and Copeland says they do a “fantastic job.”

As a car pulled up, they could make a free-will donation to the band for washing their car. Prior to the car wash, students spread the word about the upcoming event, and friends, neighbors, and others pledge on how many cars they wash or make a lump sum donation.

Copeland says the funds are used for a variety of things. He says they work to help the students have the best experience they can.

Donations are used for many things, and soon they may be used to help pay for upgrading uniforms, help pay for camps so students can attend if they wish. “There are so many important things that the booster funds go towards, and here in Oskaloosa they’re [Boosters] incredibly supportive.”
