Oskaloosa Optimists enjoyed their first in-person meeting since March of 2020 by honoring Oskaloosa Middle School students Cora Snakenberg and Carter Hoskinson. The students earned the award for the second trimester.

Due to pandemic concerns the club had not met in-person, instead opting for Zoom
meetings.

“It was great to see each other again and what better way to return than to honor a pair of students who have had an impact on their school, community and family,” said club president R.D. Keep.

Snakenberg and Hoskinson were introduced by Student of the Trimester chair and middle school principal Mark Scholes. He presented the students with plaques and spoke of how each student had been nominated by school faculty.

Each student received a plaque and had their name engraved on a larger plaque that hangs in the school commons near the spectator gym.

“We had several nominations for this award and it was tough to decide but these two rose to the top,” said Scholes. “We have many amazing students doing amazing things.”

Keep added, “This is one of our longest-running projects going back to the mid-1990s. We look forward to every time we give this award. It has been rewarding to watch how the former award winners go out and do incredible things in the world.”
