(Opal) Jean Ferree, 88, of Oskaloosa, died Monday, November 5, 2012, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born November 23, 1923, in Mahaska County, the daughter of William Judson and Susan Abby Watters Gladwin. She attended Oskaloosa High School. On November 27, 1943, Jean was united in marriage to Harold Lloyd Ferree, and he died on November 26, 1970. Jean worked at the old Lynn’s Hatchery and the old Continental Overall Factory in Oskaloosa, and lastly at Pella Corporation and retired in 1986. She was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Early in life Jean enjoyed bowling and playing softball, and also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and bingo. She was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and caught every game she could on television.

Jean’s family includes her four children, Ronnie (& Cheryl) Ferree, Danny (& Marsha) Ferree, Marilyn Stout, and Charles (& Jackie) Ferree all of Oskaloosa; eight grandchildren, Tami (& Wayne) Wickenkamp, Chris (& Rachell) Shadduck, Rhonda (& Bill) Rush, Sheri (& Bobby) Cowin, Gina (& Stan) Vittetoe, Joli Stout, Chad (& Cassie) Ferree and Colton (& Courtney) Ferree; twenty two great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Samer of Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Besides her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ed, Earl, Wilbur and Floyd Gladwin; and four sisters, Pearl Turner, Ida Bequeath, Jesse Gladwin and Hazel Gladwin.

Graveside funeral services and burial will be held Friday, November 9, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Highland Cemetery in Eddyville with Reverend John Allard officiating. A procession will form at Bates Funeral Chapel at 9:20 a.m. for those wishing to go to the cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Thursday from 5-7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Iowa Hospice.
