OHS Student Council Attends Leadership Conference

Several students from Oskaloosa High School attended the 32nd annual Iowa Student Leadership Conference – Focus on Leadership XXXII, Iowa Events Center, Des Moines, IA. The conference was held on October 28 & 29, 2012, and was attended by approximately 1,300 student leaders and student council advisors from across the state of Iowa. This annual conference is sponsored by School Administrators of Iowa and the Iowa Association of Student Councils in conjunction with the Iowa High School Athletic Association Local students attending the conference were 57 members of the Oskaloosa High School Student Council, including 16 seniors, 16 juniors, 12 sophomores, and 13 freshemen and their student council advisor(s) Kim Gile and Dannitta Presley.

Student Council President Amanda Anderson accepted the Honor Council with Meritorious Distinction

Award on behalf of Oskaloosa High School.

Honor Council Awards are given to those schools who submit a scrapbook documenting school, community, state regional and national activities in which their council has taken part throughout the past year. The award is based on a criterion of excellence which student councils are encouraged to work toward. Points are awarded in each category and total point scores are accumulated to determine qualification for the award.

Three sophomores were selected to represent the students of Iowa as a state officer on the IASC Advisory Board,. Gerrit VanMaanen of Oskaloosa was elected President-Elect.
