Norman Wehrle, 88, of Taintor passed away Thursday evening, December 12, 2019 at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House. Norman Lee Wehrle, the son of Paul and Lula (Dillman) Wehrle, was born on May 3, 1931 on the family farm near Taintor, Iowa.
Norman was a 1950 graduate of New Sharon High School.
On September 1, 1960, Norman was united in marriage to Loretta Wanders at the First Presbyterian Church in New Sharon. To this union three sons were born, Brian, Bryce and Bruce.
Norman started farming at a young age and eventually took over the family farm near Taintor due to his father’s failing health. Norman farmed the family century farm for over 50 years before he decided to retire in 2000.
He enjoyed collecting coins, attending auctions, refinishing and restoring old furniture, building kid’s fences and camping at the Iowa State Fair for over 60 years. He was a lifelong member of the Taintor Community Church and the COOPs in Taintor, Sully and Pella.
Norman’s legacy will be honored by his wife of 59 years, Loretta Wehrle of Taintor; two sons, Brian (& Jan) Wehrle of New Sharon and Bruce (& Kim) Wehrle of Montezuma; a daughter-in-law, Antonette Wehrle of Lynnville; six grandchildren: Matthew (& Elizabeth) Wehrle, Caleb Wehrle, Morgan Berstler, Jake Berstler, Blake Wehrle and Grant Wehrle; one great grandson, Landen Wehrle; a sister, Lois Van Wyk; two brothers-in-law, Duane Wanders and Leroy (& Millie) Wanders; one sister-in-law, Dorothy (& Norm) Ver Ploeg; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lula Wehrle; a son, Bryce Wehrle; a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Trudy Wehrle; sister and brother-in-law, Marge and Gerald Van Houweling; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Wanders.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 Thursday, December 19, 2019 at the Taintor Community Church.
Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at the Taintor Community Church with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Taintor Community Church or the Hospice of Pella Comfort House.
