We want to introduce you to Nolanne Rust. In a day and age when so much negativity fills conversations, she’s focused herself on bringing forward the positive things happening around her and in the community. We look forward to her sharing those often overlooked and quickly forgotten good things around us.

I posted a status on my personal Facebook page yesterday about friends whose Mom is heading to the Serenity House here in Oskaloosa. A group of my friends, some who don’t know any of the family, have dropped off food so their family can have a home cooked, family style meal as they get her settled in. This is amazing to me.

Do you know what’s nice about supporting small businesses? They support us back, without fame or expectations.

Three local small businesses have offered to provide suppers in entirety on other nights, knowing the days ahead for a local family won’t be easy. A real estate company owner, a Boutique owner, and a salon owner. These aren’t relatives or close friends of the family; they are people who saw a need and filled it, purely out of the goodness of their heart.

Among those donating for the supper tonight are two other direct sales business owners (girls’ dresses and makeup), a couple of friends of mine, and people from local churches and our moms group.

There’s so much negativity, especially on social media. So many times we go to the keyboards to point out flaws in our community and all the reasons we can’t stand living in a town we choose to stay in.

But let me tell you why I love our community. These hearts are amazing and hands down some of the best I’ve ever known. There will always be things we’d like to change about any town we could ever visit or reside in. That’s not an Oskaloosa thing.

But what IS an Oskaloosa thing is the love for our community and its people. Our business owners (so many more than mentioned) are so gracious. Our churches are so supportive. And for every bad person, there are at least ten great ones.

Choose kind, spread love, and support the businesses that support our families!
