NM Boys Fall Twice at EBF Tourney
EDDYVILLE – North Mahaska lost a pair of nonconference baseball games Saturday at the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont round robin. The Warhawks lost 18-10 to Pella Christian, then dropped an 8-2 decision to EBF.
Game one was a wild slugfest as the teams combined for 17 hits, 15 walks and 10 errors.
Junior Dane Van Mersbergen led North Mahaska’s hitting with two doubles and a single to drive in five runs. Dylan Meland hit a singe with two RBI and Hunter Wernli hit two singles.
Van Mersbergen started on the mound going 5 1/3 innings allowing seven runs on four hits, six walks and three strikeouts. Walks were the main downfall for the Warhawks who issued 11 free passes. They also committed four errors.
Lucas Nunnikhoven stole three bases and Wernli swiped two.
Van Mersbergen and Luke Boender accounted for half of the seven Warhawk hits against EBF. They each hit two singles. Van Mersbergen hit the lone RBI. Nunnikhoven stole three bases.
Charlie Goemaat tossed 2 2/3 innings and took the loss for NM. He allowed five runs on three hits, five walks and a strikeout. Travis Castaneda gave up three runs on four hits, three walks and two strikeouts.
North Mahaska hosts English Valleys tonight, then goes to Belle Plaine Wednesday and Iowa Valley Friday.
