Muriel Claire Gordon, 39, of Oskaloosa, transitioned on Sunday, August 6, 2023. She was born January 25, 1984, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Ava Elaine Gordon.
Muriel earned her G.E.D. and furthered her education at Vatterott College.
Muriel worked at Taco Johns in Oskaloosa for a few years. Later she discovered her passion for caring for people and worked at Vriendshap in Pella and Homestead Assisted Living in Oskaloosa.
Muriel enjoyed being out and about, beautifying herself, getting her nails done, and always looked forward to trying new places to eat.
Her surviving family includes her children: Tarhea Hughes of Springfield, Illinois, Darius Fane of Oskaloosa, Darryl Fane of Oskaloosa, Iyona Stewart of Oskaloosa, Cameron Gordon of Oskaloosa, Destiny Gordon of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren, Zuri Gene, Jiraiaya Fane, and Trayvon Harryman; two brothers, Kwame Smith of Des Moines and Benjamin Oluwajimi Gordon of Chicago; two uncles, Anthony (& Alexandria) Gordon of Coralville and Benjamin Franklin Gordon III of Iowa City, Iowa.
Muriel was preceded in death by her mother, Ava Gordon; her grandparents, Delores Gordon and Benjamin Franklin Gordon II; and her aunt Iris Gordon.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 3:00 PM, in the Bates Funeral Chapel, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, with Dr. Ray A.L. Coleman Jr. officiating.
Visitation with family will begin at 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Bates Funeral Chapel. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
