Skeet passed away Thursday afternoon, January 10, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 61 years, 8 months and 20 days.

Millard Martin Lathrop, son of Albert E. and Kathleen Elizabeth Cooper Lathrop, was born, April 21, 1951, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was nicknamed “Skeet” early in his life. Skeet attended Oskaloosa High school and began working at an early age building pole buildings. He would later work for Dooley Manufacturing. Skeet was in a serious auto accident in the late 70’s which made working difficult – although he pressed on and worked at Dooley’s for several more years. Skeet enjoyed the companionship of his four brothers; they enjoyed fishing, hunting mushrooms and cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs together.

His family includes his brothers: Rick Lathrop of Oskaloosa, David Lathrop of New Sharon, Anthony (Julie) Lathrop of Oskaloosa and Roger (Sue) Lathrop of Oskaloosa; a son, Adam Woods; three nephews: Doug Lathrop of Eugene, Oregon, Ben Lathrop of Oskaloosa and Andy Lathrop of Eugene, Oregon; and a niece, Angela Rhode of Muscatine.

In addition to his parents, Skeet was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law: Kristi Lathrop and Shirley Lathrop; and a niece, Niki Lathrop.

Visitation: will begin at 11 a.m., Monday morning, January 14, 2013 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel. The family will be present from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Funeral Service: 10 a.m., Tuesday morning, January 15, 2013 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating.
Interment: Cremation will follow the service and private burial of his ashes will be at a later date in Forest Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in his name.
