MAHASKA COUNTY – Mahaska Health Partnership Physical and Occupational Therapy is sponsoring a free Fall Prevention Clinic on Thursday, Oct. 26.

According to MHP Occupational Therapist Aimee Wagner, falling down is the leading cause of injuries among adults age 65 and older. “Building strength, improving balance and staying fit are the most important things for adults to do in order to prevent falls,” Wagner explained. “We want to educate the public about ways they can reduce falls.”

According to Wagner, the workshop will take participants through four different stations, each taking approximately 15 minutes: a fall risk screening using the Tinetti Balance Assessment tool; ambulation and posture, addressing how posture affects balance and proper assistive devices; exercises to help improve strength and stability; environmental awareness, addressing home safety awareness with information on different assistive equipment.

“We encourage appropriate patients and even caregivers to attend this free workshop for educational materials to help support the reduction of repeat injuries from falls,” Wagner stressed.

Pre-registration for the event is required. Please call 641.672.3306 to reserve your spot.
