MAHASKA COUNTY – Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa was recently named one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States, according to The Chartis Center for Rural Health.

“This achievement is very gratifying and validates our daily commitment to providing the best healthcare possible to our community, while maintaining an efficient and effective facility,” said MHP CEO Kevin DeRonde.

“Mahaska Health Partnership physicians and staff are dedicated to being a trusted community health partner and we are truly honored for this national recognition. Being recognized by the healthcare industry’s most comprehensive rating of US hospitals speaks to our team members’ ongoing commitment to our patients and the communities we serve.”

MHP joins 13 other Iowa hospitals on the list which are located in Atlantic, Audubon, Cherokee, Decatur, Estherville, Guthrie Center, Harlan, Le Mars, Missouri Valley, Orange City, Osage, Sac City, and Winterset. According to Becker’s Hospital Review, the hospitals included in the list are top performers in managing risk, achieving higher quality, securing better outcomes, increasing patient satisfaction and operating at a lower cost than their peers.

MHP scored in the top 100 for Critical Access Hospitals on iVantage Health Analytics’ Hospital Strength INDEX®. The INDEX, now in its eighth year, leverages 50 rural-relevant indicators across eight pillars to provide the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural provider performance. Results are the basis for many of rural healthcare’s most prominent awards, advocacy efforts and legislative initiatives.

“The Hospital Strength INDEX provides a true benchmark for helping rural providers to better understand performance levels and identify areas of improvement,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader of The Chartis Center for Rural Health. “When we look across the spectrum of rural-relevant INDEX indicators, the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals are establishing a new standard for how to deliver higher quality care to their communities despite an unpredictable healthcare environment.”

The Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals play a key role in providing a safety net to communities across America – and the INDEX measures these facilities across eight pillars of hospital strength: Inpatient Share Ranking, Outpatient Share Ranking, Cost, Charge, Quality, Outcomes, Patient Perspective and Financial Stability.
