MAHASKA COUNTY –The Mahaska Health Partnership Cancer Care and Infusion Center’s Annual Christmas Basket Auction raised $1,300 for a local charity.

This year’s proceeds were designated to benefit Crisis Intervention Services (CIS), a nonprofit organization that serves victims/survivors of domestic and dating violence and/or sexual assault by providing support and empowerment. CIS serves Appanoose, Davis, Jasper, Jefferson, Keokuk, Lucas, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Poweshiek, Wapello and Wayne counties in Iowa.

CCIC Oncology Nurse Sandy Long, RN, said they received 11 holiday baskets to auction, donated by MHP staff. She said the CCIC nurses were overwhelmed by the support MHP employees showed through their donations and bidding. “We are so blessed to be a part of the MHP family. As a team, we are truly making healthcare personal for our community.”

Long said that this year, CCIC staff let employees make suggestions regarding where the money should be donated, and CIS was chosen. She said several MHP departments work closely with CIS, including Behavioral Health Services and the Emergency Department. “We have several Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) in our ED, who received special training to conduct sexual assault evidentiary exams for rape victims. These nurses know how much CIS helps make a difference for victims and survivors of abuse,” Long explained.
