Mary L. Beal, 70, of Oskaloosa died Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born Thursday, September 6, 1945, in San Francisco, California, the daughter of Gilbert and Lena Kaluzne Pefferman.

Mary graduated from the Sioux City Central High School with the Class of 1963. On December 28, 1963, Mary was united in marriage to Jerry Gay in Oskaloosa, to this union two daughters were born Kristy and Cynde. Mary and Jerry later divorced.

Early on, Mary worked for the Sheriff’s Department in Mahaska County. On August 17, 1984, Mary was united in marriage to Joe Beal, Jr. in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mary and Joe owned and operated the Stonehenge Supper Club in Oskaloosa for many years. After they sold the business Mary went to work at C.O.C. in Pella. In 2002, she went to work at Barnhouse Publishing in Oskaloosa, where she worked until illness forced her retirement.

Mary was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She delighted in spending time with her family, attending grandchildren’s events, playing games, keeping up with family and friends on Facebook, watching wildlife, and puzzles. She also loved traveling, especially to Las Vegas and Florida.

Her family includes her husband, Joe Beal, Jr. of Oskaloosa; two daughters: Kristy (& Andy) Holmberg of Oskaloosa, and Cynde Stanzel of Denver Colorado; four grandchildren: Adam (& Hannah) Stanzel, Jamie, Lindsey and Cale Holmberg; a great granddaughter, Layla Stanzel; a sister, Sandra Klein of University Park; parents-in-law, Joe (& Edna) Beal of Oskaloosa; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: George in infancy and Steve Pefferman; and a brother-in-law: Alvin Klein.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 31, 2015, at 10:30 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Charlie McMillian officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Friday, October 30, 2015 after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Friday from 6 – 8 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice.
