Martha passed away Monday morning at the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House in Oskaloosa at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 16 days.

Martha Marie Bogard, daughter of Arnold D. and Bessie Clara DeKraai Duinink, was born, August 27, 1929, in Jasper County near Lynnville, Iowa. She attended Black Oak School near Lynnville until 1940, when the family moved to a farm near Forest Home in Poweshiek County, where she attended Forest Home School through eighth grade. Following her education, Martha and her sisters helped her parents on the farm because her brother was serving in WWII. October 19, 1946, Martha married Joseph Allen Bogard in Sigourney, Iowa. They lived in Montezuma a short time before moving to acreage on Buck Creek west of Montezuma; they would eventually move to a number of other farms in the Montezuma/Barnes City area and worked those farms until moving to Oskaloosa in 1972. In 1967, Martha began working at Continental/Big Smith Overall Factory, where she worked as a seamstress. Martha and Joe moved to Florida in 1980 where they spent a year and then returned to Oskaloosa. In 1984 they moved to Gainesville, Missouri and in 2000 they returned to Oskaloosa. Martha wasn’t allowed to go to high school as a young woman, but at the age of 51 she earned her GED. She was a life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and she attended the New Sharon Friends Church.

Martha’s family includes her son, Isaac “Andy” Bogard and his significant other, Deb Hunter of Eldora, IA; granddaughters: Bonnie Jean Lee of Kingman, AZ and Annette Bogard of Marshalltown; a grandson, Jeffery Bogard of Marshalltown; five great grandchildren; three sisters: Pearl Mary Felton of Marshalltown, Lucille Bogard of New Sharon and Nellie Irene Nelson of Bondurant.

Besides her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Joe on April 28, 1999; a daughter, Linda Jean Lee on August 25, 1991; and two brothers: Alvie Walter Duinink and Clarence Dirk Duinink.

Memorials may be made in her name.

Visitation: will be held from 2 – 6 p.m., Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel.
Funeral Service: 10 a.m., Wednesday morning, November 14, 2012 at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Reverend Marlene Smith of the New Sharon Friends Church officiating.
Interment: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
