Martha L. Kime, 92, of Fremont, passed away Monday morning, October 26, 2015, at her home in Fremont. Martha Louise Kime, daughter of Hadley Van Lear and Vera Wilma (Stout) McDowell, was born, November 5, 1922, at the rural Fremont home of her parents.

Martha was a graduate of Fremont High School. She married Gregory Clayton Kime, June 14, 1944, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. Martha and Gregory moved to California in 1955 where Greg got a job with the postal service, and Martha was a homemaker. They remained there until 1979 when Martha inherited a farm near Fremont. Since returning from California, Martha engaged in farm management.

Martha was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s Circle.

Martha enjoyed her pet cats, watching and feeding wild birds, traveling to the desert Southwest and reading Tony Hillerman novels of the Navaho Reservation.

Her family includes her husband, Gregory, of Fremont; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Christina Kime of Fremont; a daughter, Mary Farrington of Keokuk County; a granddaughter, Sydney (& Daniel) Guiter of Fremont; a grandson, Marcus (& fiancée, Danielle Bucher) McDougall of Fremont; and a great-grandson, Gable Guiter.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents.

As was her wish, her body has been cremated.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 6-8 p.m., Friday, October 30 at the Fremont Community Center.
