Martha Burtlow, 79, of Hedrick died Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Serenity House in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Martha was born Tuesday, September 12, 1933 in Hammond, Indiana, the daughter of Daniel and Margaret Sharp Stahl. She attended school in Hammond, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois. On September 29, 1951 she was united in marriage to Melvin Burtlow Sr. in Wapello, Iowa, and Melvin passed away February 11, 1996. Martha was a homemaker for most of her life but later worked various jobs including Pioneer Seed, the Townhouse Restaurant in Sigourney, and was also employed by the city of Hedrick.

Martha enjoyed playing cards, especially solitaire, science fiction movies, and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Martha is survived by her nine children: four Sons: Melvin Jr (& Eva) Burtow of Ollie, Martin Burtlow, Marshell Burtlow, & Mark Burtlow all of Hedrick; five daughters: Marjorie Lisk of Hedrick, Margaret (& Don) Kempf of Hedrick, Marcella Davis of Richland, Marsha (& John) Dickerson of New Sharon, and Melinda (& Bill) Coleman of Hedrick; 21 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Marvin Mitchell Burtlow; four grandsons; two brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral Service: 10:30 am May 29, 2013 at Fremont Funeral Chapel
Interment: Doggett Cemetery near Lancaster.
Visitation: Open after 2:00 pm with family present from 5 until 7 pm May 28, 2013 at Fremont Funeral Chapel
