Mahaska Health Partnership to Host Open House Sunday, Sept. 8 for new wing
Board members, dignitaries and staff all participated in the official ribbon cutting on Wednesday afternoon.
MAHASKA COUNTY – Mahaska Health Partnership invites the community to an open house on Sunday, Sept. 8 from Noon to 3:00 pm. to celebrate the completion of their new patient care wing.
“We have a lot to be thankful for at MHP and the opening of this new building is a fitting reward for many years of hard work and planning,” MHP CEO Jay Christensen said.
The first patients will be cared for in the new wing in mid-September, but before that happens, MHP wants to provide the community a sneak peek. “This is a huge milestone for MHP and the patients we serve,” Christensen shared. “A $26 million investment in Mahaska County is something we can all be proud of.”
During the open house, tours will be provided of the new home to Inpatient Services, the Birthing Center and Surgical Services. According to Christensen, the inpatient rooms are larger and completely private, each having its own bathroom. “In addition, the size of the rooms makes it more comfortable to accommodate visitors while still allowing staff the space they need.
“The Birthing Center maintained the same number of labor/delivery suites but we made sure to include those special amenities that help moms relax and recover after delivery,” Christensen explained. Those amenities include a whirlpool tubs in each room, special infant bath sinks, personal refrigerators and flat screen TVs.
“Our current inpatient, birthing and surgical facilities were built in 1965, and a lot has changed in the delivery of healthcare in that time,” Christensen stressed. “That’s one reason the surgical department in the new building is three-times the size of the old surgery department.
Christensen said that patient flows will be greatly improved in the new surgery department. There is an additional operating room and endoscopy room, as well as private pre and post-operative areas.
Christensen said there are currently nine surgeons performing procedures on the MHP campus, so the additional rooms were necessary to better accommodate patients. “The old space could no longer accommodate today’s medical technologies,” Christensen explained.
“This building was designed with our patients in mind. We already have outstanding providers and staff but now our facilities will be up to that same level. We hope the public will join us on Sept. 8 to celebrate this exciting time in our community’s history.”
MHP’s new patient care wing is located on the north side of the medical campus, off North 12th Street.
