Mahaska Health Partnership Celebrates Nursing Assistants Week

MAHASKA COUNTY – In acknowledgement of Nursing Assistants Week, June 14 through 21, Mahaska Health Partnership would like to recognize the Certified Nurses Assistants (CNAs) that are making healthcare personal at MHP.
According to the Iowa Workforce Information Network, CNAs provide personal care, monitor and assess health status, and maintain a secure environment in which patients can heal under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
“Often it is the CNAs who spend the most time with the patients on our unit,” explained MHP Director of Inpatient Geriatric Psychiatry Lisa Cox. “They take the time to make sure patients get all they need to make their stay at the hospital the best that it can be.”
This year marks the 35th anniversary of celebrating Nursing Assistants Week and the unique contributions CNAs make to ensure patients are appropriately cared for. Whether they are working behind the scenes or directly with a patient, CNAs play a vital role in the healing process of a patient.
“Our CNAs clean and process instruments for surgery and other departments throughout the hospital,” Director of Surgical Services Paul Topliff said. “Whether it be helping to prevent surgical infections or providing direct patient care, our CNAs have a hand in every step.”
Nursing assistants are on the front lines of patient care and have a big impact on the quality of service MHP provides. CNAs are often the eyes and ears of what is going on and can alert nurses if any situation should arise.
