A Mahaska Health Press Release

MAHASKA COUNTY – Mahaska Health will be hosting a free open house on February 12, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Cedar Bluff Learning Center in honor of American Heart Month. There will also be a lunch and learn from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. featuring Cardiologist Dr. Phillip Bear.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, so we think it is essential to bring awareness to heart month,” said Renee Edgar, RN. ”This event is an excellent opportunity for community members to learn more about the importance of heart health.”

The public is invited to stop by Mahaska Health to visit with medical professionals about various topics related to heart health including diet, exercise and sleep services. Over the lunch hour, guests are encouraged to attend the free lunch and learn session.

“Many people are convinced that cardiovascular disease isn’t relevant to them, but that’s simply not true.” said Edgar. “High blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, smoking, obesity, physical inactivity and unhealthy eating habits can all increase a person’s risk for heart disease. Our hope is that this event will help keep people informed on the importance of heart health.”

RSVPs are required to attend the lunch and learn portion of the event. To RSVP, guests can call 641.660.3240 or register online at Eventbrite.com by searching for “Mahaska”.
