Oskaloosa, Iowa – In their second meeting of the month, the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors tackled an agenda filled with reports from local agencies.

After some normal housekeeping items, the supervisors heard from County Sanitarian Eric Dursky. During his monthly report, he outlined the recent letter sent out to residents along Carbonado Road. He has since heard back from some residents, and the process of bringing those systems compliant with state regulations has continued.

Dursky also reported working with the DNR on some stream and creek contamination from a few hog confinements in the northern part of the county.

Dave Sedevic spoke about the program given recently at Russell Wildlife in helping to keep those conservation officers updated on the law enforcement aspect of their jobs, such as weapon retention, ATV rules changes and cold water rescue.

Sedevic also addressed that the White Oak project was nearing completion.

Eveland Access will be opening to campers for the season on Friday, and Sedevic expects the lines, to pick a good spot early, to be lengthy once again.

Miranda Johnson of MCARD informed the supervisors that the CIN bill had been passed by the Governor, and now the next step in getting the section of Highway 63 added to the CIN, formally, will commence.

Sheriff Paul DeGeest informed the supervisors that the court security would be purchasing a new metal detector to help screen those entering the court room. The cost isn’t expected to be over $7,500 and will include a couple of wands to help screen independently of the larger device.

The funds for the metal detectors will come from dollars collected from housing inmates, and won’t cost the taxpayers.

The Secondary Roads passed out their fiscal year 2013 budget. The budget, just over 5.8 million dollars, was approved by the supervisors.

Also approved was the Secondary Road Construction Program for the fiscal year 2013.

Barnes City Mayor Gordon Lindblom brought a petition to the supervisors over having road work done. The supervisors informed Lindblom to coordinate with the county engineer and to get placed upon the agenda.

The next scheduled meeting of the Mahaska County Supervisors is May 7th at the 3rd floor conference room of the Mahaska County Courthouse.
