Mahaska County Conservation bird feed give away is a successful day for everyone involved

These 2 young Mahaska Residents were on hand to help load the cracked corn into cars and trucks Saturday January 22, 2011

The Mahaska County Conservation Board held their Annual Bird Food Give Away from 9:00 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, January 22 at the Russell Wildlife Area.

Residents brought their own buckets for collecting up to 10 gallons of cracked corn for bird feeding Bring your buckets out to the Conservation Center to get free cracked corn for wild bird feeding. By 10 am, 40 to 50 families had taken advantage and they continued to come at a steady pace not only for the corn, but also for more information on bird feeding and bird houses.

People were encouraged while they were there to check out the bird blind feeder and the feeding station that is located off the southwest corner of the conservation center’s parking lot.
