Luella Jones, age 95, of Oskaloosa, and formerly of Paramount, California, passed away at the MHP Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa. She was born on October 30, 1927, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Lura Marie (Wildman) Hickman.
Luella attended Oskaloosa High School and graduated with the Class of 1945.
Luella married at 18 and had 5 children before moving to California in 1957.
On November 15, 1968, she was united in marriage to Ferris Darwin “Red” Jones in Las Vegas. Ferris passed away in 1976.
Early in her life, Luella worked as a waitress in Oskaloosa. She later worked as an interior installer for McDonald Douglas for over 30 years until retiring in 1993.
Luella also volunteered a generous amount of her time at SHARE Iowa from 1994 until they closed.
She enjoyed crocheting, completing jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and was very crafty. She always looked forward to game night with her family, playing Rummikube and other board games. Luella was also a lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan.
She is survived by her three children: Cheryl Alcorn of Temple City, CA., Deborah Kroese of Belton, MO., and Brenda (& James) Alligood of Menlo, GA; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Nora Stanbro and Joyce Brennon. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Ferris; Luella was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lura Hickman; a son, Ron Gregg; a daughter, Jeanne Gustafson; a grandson, Dan Pereira; a granddaughter, Kimberly Rudolph; and her siblings: Robert Hickman, Elliot Hickman, Dorothy Davis; Clarence Hickman, Kenneth Hickman, Mildred Fenoglio, Kelsey Hickman, Bill Hickman and John Hickman.
Visitation will begin Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Luella’s family present from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon to greet friends and relatives. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Chad Lierman officiating.
Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, California at a later date. Memorials may be made to MHP Serenity Hospice House.
