Louise E. Turner, 99, of Kansas City, Missouri, and formerly of University Park, Iowa, died Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the Bethesda Living Center in Kansas City. She was born September 17, 1923, in Lucas County, Iowa, the daughter of Harley and Anna Woods Keeney.

Louise graduated from Chariton High School with the class of 1941. She went on to take Normal Teacher Training and earned her teaching certificate.

Louise taught country school in Lucas County, Iowa, in the Derby and Russell Communities from 1941-1946.

On May 12, 1944, she was united in marriage to the love of her life Cloyd L. Turner in Chariton, Iowa.

Following their marriage, Cloyd served in the United States Army overseas during World War II.

Following the war, upon Cloyd’s return from service, Louise stayed home to care for her family and home. She was a member of Gateway Church of the Nazarene (formerly First Church of The Nazarene) in Oskaloosa, where she served as a Sunday School teacher of all ages for over 40 years. She was also a member of the Senior Adult Council, and served as the chairperson of the Caring Committee.

Louise enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, and hours of babysitting. She especially enjoyed her garden, and spent hours canning and freezing her produce so the family would have “garden” vegetables year round. She delighted in spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and church family.

Her family includes her three children: Virginia (& Rev. Jim) Folsom of Kansas City, Dr. Lee (& Marilyn) Turner of Bourbonnais, Illinois, and Rosie Shepherd of Kansas City; six grandchildren: Julie (& Gavin) McGaha, Jennifer (& David) Douglass, Tricia (& Reverend Jason) Worthington, Stephen (& April) Shepherd, Dan Shepherd, and David (& Elizabeth) Turner; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Carol Fullerton of Orlando, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her husband Cloyd Turner, who died September 13, 2005 after 61 years of marriage; she was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson-in-law, John Schofer; three brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 12, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Reverend Jim Folsom and Guy Almon officiating.
Burial will be in the University Park Cemetery in University Park. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
The family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Friday May 12, 2023 from 12 noon until service time to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Gateway Church of the Nazarene.
