Lois Nehre, 101, of Cedar Falls, IA and formerly of Oskaloosa passed away June 12, 2014, at the Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls.

Wilda Lois Terrell Nehre, daughter of Frank Allen and Alice Lilian Nicholson Terrell, was born July 3, 1912, in Ollie, Iowa. The family moved to Fairfield, Iowa in November, 1918. Lois, as she was known, was a 1929 graduate of Fairfield High School and a 1933 graduate of Parsons College in Fairfield.

Lois taught English at Pulaski High School and English and Latin at Mount Ayr High School. June 22, 1937, she married Harold Nehre in Barhydt Chapel on the Parsons College campus in Fairfield. They lived in Van Meter and Pella, Iowa before moving to Oskaloosa in 1946, where Harold was an elementary principal. Lois taught fourteen years in the privately operated (by a local board) School for Handicapped Children, housed in the Edith Holtman residence. The name was later changed to the School for Exceptional Children.

Lois was an active member of the community and belonged to the First Baptist Church and its Women’s Mission Auxiliaries, she was a former member of Kiwanis Ladies, Retired Teachers and School Personnel Association, Penn College Auxiliary, Mahaska County Historical Society, Altrusa Club of Oskaloosa, and the American Association of University Women.

Lois’ family includes a son, Marvin Lee (Phyllis Sue) Nehre of Keokuk; and a daughter, Marcia Lynn Street of Cedar Falls; two grandsons: Timothy Lee (Erin) Nehre of Nairobi, Kenya and Michael Alan (Heather) Nehre of St. Louis, MO; four great-grandsons: Andrew & Matthew of St. Louis, and Benjamin & Michael of Nairobi; three nieces in Austin, TX; one niece in Coralville, IA; as well as great- and great-great nieces and nephews in both TX & IA.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Elsie Terrell; an infant sister, Dorothea Louise; and a son-in-law, Harold Street.

Funeral services for Lois will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2014, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Pastor Henry Lippert officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., Monday; the family will be present from 10 a.m. to service time to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls or Imagine the Possibilities in Oskaloosa.
