Laurie Van Alst, 58, of Oskaloosa passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
Laurie Lynn Van Alst, daughter of Robert Dan and Alla Mae (Heyveld) Crosby, was born May 27, 1957, in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Laurie was raised in Taintor and attended school in New Sharon, where she was a 1976 graduate. She married Ron Van Alst October 24, 1975, in New Sharon. To that union three children were born. They later divorced.
Laurie worked for 19 years at Pella Corporation doing assembly in the door plant. She retired from there in 2008.
Laurie enjoyed reading, puzzles and watching old movies, but, her delight was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Her family includes her children: Shannon Van Alst (friend, Holly Smith) of Oskaloosa; Shauna (& Chris) Schwab of Verona, WI and Shane Van Alst (friend, Debra Cooley) of Oskaloosa. She was blessed with six granddaughters: Kierstin, Aleigha, and Braelyn Van Alst, Danielle and Shayna Van Alst, and Kenadi Schwab; one grandson, Drake Pinegar. She is survived by a special friend, Pam Emanuel of Oskaloosa; her mother, Alla Mae Crosby of New Sharon; five brothers and their spouses; two sisters and their spouses; and many nieces and nephews.
Laurie was preceded in death by her father.
As was her wish, Laurie’s body has been cremated. No services are planned at this time.
Memorials may be made to the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House.
