Lance Hoyt
May 6, 1967 – March 16, 2024
Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 56

Lance Hoyt, age 56 of Oskaloosa, unexpectedly fell ill on March 9th. On March 16th, Jesus called him home. He was surrounded by his family at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Lance was born May 6,1967, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the first-born child of Edward and Dixie (Francis) Hoyt and brother to Stacy Hoyt.

Lance attended school at Garfield Elementary and Oskaloosa Junior and Senior High School with the class of 1985. He would later pursue studies in electronics.

During his teenage years he worked at various jobs putting up hay, detasseling corn and other farm jobs, determined to save money for his first Car, a 64 Chevy Malibu which he would rebuild with Keith Mc Williams at Country Body Shop. This would be the beginning of a lifelong passion for Muscle Cars and Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

After High school he worked at Rolscreen (now Pella Corp). Over the years Lance had many jobs he enjoyed. The job he spoke most fondly of was his time as an Iron Worker and how he loved the view from the top of a building when he was walking the beams.

From an early age Lance had a love for anything outdoors. His childhood was spent running around the family farm with his sister, hunting mushrooms, picking raspberries, fishing in the creek and riding ATVs with his many cousins. He always loved hunting, fishing, trapping, camping and just being in the woods. During his time working for Snyder manufacturing Lance traveled to many parts of the country and often told stories of the beautiful places he visited, from the pine forests of Pennsylvania, the Pacific Coast Highway, the Mountains in Aspen, the Florida Coastline and the Islands of Hawaii, Natures splendor always touched him.

Above everything else in life Lance was most proud of being a father to Blazze and Lani, and Grandpa “Big Boy” to Jasiah. His babies were the most important thing in his world. The love and softness you could see in Lance’s eyes when talking to or about his kids was a window past his often rough and tough exterior and into the heart and soul of Lance.

Lance loved and treasured his little dog Dahlia and Grand dog Hydro. It was always a chuckle to see such a big tough guy with his tiny little dogs and even more delightful to overhear his deep voice switch to a soft baby voice when he spoke to them. Often only family and those closest to him got to see beyond the tough exterior he often maintained. He was fiercely protective of not only his family and friends, but often a defender of the defenseless from animals to the elderly or the disabled. He was often a man a few words, but a deep feeling and big heart.

Lance is survived by his parents Edward and Dixie Hoyt of Oskaloosa, Iowa; his sister, Stacy Hoyt of Kansas City, Missouri; his son, Blazze (& Hailey) Hoyt of Des Moines, Iowa; his daughter, Lani Hoyt; and grandson, Jasiah Hale (Little Boy) of Oskaloosa, Iowa; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nello and Carolyn Hoyt, and Donald and Maxine Francis.

As was his wish, Lance’s body will be Cremated. A Celebration of Life will take place at a future date. Memorials can be made to Mahaska County Pheasants Forever. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
