Oskaloosa–The Penn women’s basketball team split a pair of contests last week to remain inside the national ranking as the eighth NAIA Division II poll was released today.
Penn (19-8, 10-3 MCC) fell nine positions from #16 to #25 and currently owns 61 points this week.
All eight of the squad’s setbacks this winter have come against programs currently ranked or were ranked or receiving votes at the time of the loss.
Davenport (Mich.) is the nation’s #1 for the fifth week in a row with 405 points and all 15 first-place votes. Northwestern and Morningside are still second and third, respectively, while Sioux Falls (S.D.) is now fourth and Kansas Wesleyan is now fifth.
Iowa Wesleyan has taken over the top spot in the Midwest Collegiate Conference as Division II’s #13 program. St. Ambrose is two spots behind the Tigers in 15th. Mount Mercy (34th) gives the MCC four squads in the entire poll. Eight programs, including four from the Great Plains Athletic Conference, continue to represent the state of Iowa in the ranking.
Penn remains in Oskaloosa Wednesday to host Grand View in MCC play at 5:30 p.m.
