Kathleen Abbott

Oskaloosa. Kathleen Abbott, 84, of Oskaloosa died Thursday, January 6, 2011, at her home in Oskaloosa. She was born August 27, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Ross and Mary Garrington Lewis. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines. On June 15, 1945, she was united in marriage to Raymond Abbott, at Ottumwa. Following their marriage they lived in Des Moines for a short time, they then moved to Denver, Colorado and later Arvada, Colorado. In 1982 they moved back to Des Moines, and then to Oskaloosa in 1984. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution and the Women’s Farm Bureau in Oskaloosa where she served as an officer for many years. She enjoyed doing ceramics and sewing.

Her family includes her husband of over 65 years, Raymond Abbott of Oskaloosa; two sons and their wives: Raymond Ross and Wanda Abbott of Denver, Colorado and Dwaine and Amanda Abbott of Flagstaff, Arizona; seven grandchildren: Danny, Andy, Stacy, Tina, Crystal, Lisa, and Cindy; and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother: Donald Lewis.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Roger DeWaard officiating. Burial will be in the Beacon Cemetery near Beacon. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Monday after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Monday from 6-8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
