Karen Spaur, 84, of Bussey, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Karen Ray Spaur, daughter of Raymond and Barbara (Gott) Reed, was born June 7, 1939, in Pershing, Iowa.

Growing up, Karen lived in Pershing and Bussey and attended Bussey schools. She was a 1957 graduate of Bussey High School.

Karen married the love of her life, Dale Homer Spaur, in 1960, and to this union, three children were born: Michael, Lisa, and Teresa.

Karen was a homemaker until her children were teenagers, at which time she began working at Pella Corp in the factory. She continued to work at Pella for 21 years until her retirement.

Karen was an avid reader and enjoyed watching Iowa State Cyclone men’s and women’s basketball, but her most enjoyable times were traveling with Dale and spending time with her family.

Karen’s family includes her three children: Michael Spaur of Oskaloosa, Lisa Brackney of Oskaloosa, and Teresa (& John) Burk of Bussey, IA; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Lana (& Jim) Dunkin of Knoxville; and a brother-in-law, Casey (& Diane) Spaur of Ocala, Florida.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her parents; one brother-in-law, Frank Spaur and his wife Louise; and her mother-in-law, Verla Spaur.

Private Graveside Memorial Services will be held at Liberty Cemetery near Bussey, Iowa with Pastor John Bacon officiating. As was Karen’s wish, her body has been cremated.
