Julia moved to a farm in Springfield, Missouri, with her parents at a young age.

She was united in marriage to Allen H. Rodemeyer from Alexander, Iowa, on August 30, 1941, in Mason City, after he returned from serving his country during WWII. After their marriage, they relocated to Tipton, Iowa.

Her hobbies included collecting antiques, especially antique children’s toys, going to auctions, quilting, embroidery, and cross stitch. She also enjoyed the game of golf and playing bridge with friends. Julia was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa and spent time as a Sunday School teacher, a chairman of the church circle.
