Joann Wymore went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at her home in Oskaloosa at 94 years and five months old. Joann Irene Wymore, daughter of James Olin and Lillie (Boomershine) Sarvis, was born March 5, 1929, at her parent’s home in Rose Hill, Iowa. She joined siblings: Marvin, Lloyd, Alberta, Gerald, and Norma.

Joann was educated in Rose Hill and graduated with the class of 1946.

On June 28, 1948, Joann married Bob Gene Wymore at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They were married 63 years, ten months before Bob’s passing in 2012.

Joann worked for optometrist Dr. Kitchen until her daughters were born and then was a stay-at-home mom. When she went back to work, she worked at The Carousel, a children’s clothing store. She later returned to Dr. Kitchen’s office and then later worked for Dr. Coen. She retired in 1992, and she and Bob spent 16 winters in Texas. They volunteered at host programs at the local schools, caring for others at the park, and going into Mexico to take food and clothing to an orphanage.

She was a member of the Fellowship Bible Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a past member of King’s Daughters, and when her daughters were young, she served as a Girl Scout Leader.

Joann’s family includes her daughters and their husbands: Connie (& Lee) Wright of Oskaloosa, Debi (& Ken) Fredrickson of Streator, IL, and Brenda (& Carl) Shadden of Marshalltown; seven grandchildren: Jodi Cullinan, Lindsey Pederson, Megan Black, Emily Friestad, Jacki Hicklin, Craig Shadden and Grant Shadden; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Joann was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; an infant daughter, Jacquelyn Rae; a granddaughter, Lesli Wright; three brothers: Marvin, Lloyd, and Gerald Sarvis; and three sisters: Alberta Casey, Norma Lester, and an infant sister, Geraldine.

Funeral services for Joann will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, August 14, 2023, at the Langkamp Funeral Chapel, with Pastors Dane Justis and Rodney DeRonde officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., Monday; the family will greet visitors from 11:30 a.m. to service time.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Mahaska Health Foundation for the Hospice Serenity House.
