Jeanette “Jean” Livezey, 77, of Oskaloosa and formerly of rural New Sharon, died Friday, December 13, 2019, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born May 29, 1942, in Albia, the daughter of Harold and Doris (White) Wellman.
Jean graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the Class of 1960.
On March 4, 1961, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Livezey at the Baptist Church in Oskaloosa. To this union four children were born, Bill Jr., Sue, John and Sandy. After sharing 52 years of marriage, Bill died on December 11, 2013.
Jeanette and William resided in Oskaloosa early on until making their permanent residence in New Sharon for nearly 60 years.
Jean worked at the North Mahaska Elementary School as a cook for a short time. After her time at the school, Jean was a home maker where she enjoyed cooking, yard work, and spending time with her family. She later took a job as a prep cook at Bonds Restaurant in New Sharon for several years.
Jean enjoyed coffee time with the neighbor ladies Marla, Georgia and Jane. She also enjoyed traveling with her late husband Bill. Together they traveled to every state except Florida. Jean and Bill spent a lot of time in Texas attending antique shows and spending time with close Texas friends. Jean’s favorite past time was reading, playing solitaire and sitting out on the porch.
Jean is survived by her four children, Bill (& Sandi) Livezey of New Sharon, Sue Davis of New Sharon, John (& Angela) Livezey of New Sharon and Sandy (& Bruce) Hartgers of Pleasant Hill; a brother, Ronnie (& Betty) Wellman of Pella; 11 grandchildren: Steve (& Jamie) Patterson, Chelsie (& T.J.) Fisher, Parker Davis, Lacy (& Ryan) McGriff, Ashley (& Kevin) Broadway, Airianne (& Brad) Vonk, Colton Livezey, Ally Livezey, Trent Maschmann, Brooke Maschmann and Abbi Hartgers; 13 great grandchildren: Jase, Joesyn, Jennix, Deuce, Lane, Jack, Clara, Brynn, Mazzie, Maggie, Avery, Chelsie and Shelby.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Livezey; her parents, Harold and Doris Wellman; a sister, Karen Courtney; and a brother, Rex Wellman.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 16, 2019 at 1:30 pm in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor David Pinkerton officiating.
Burial will be in the Bellefountaine Cemetery near Tracy. Bates Funeral Chapel in in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Sunday, December 15, 2019 after 1:00 pm in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 1 – 3 Sunday afternoon to greet friends and family.
Memorials may be made to Mahaska Health Partnership Serenity Hospice House.
